Dwindling number of D-Day veterans mark anniversary with plea to recall WWII lessons in today’s wars
SUMMARY: World War II veterans returned to Omaha Beach, France, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which saw a young generation wade through gunfire to liberate Nazi-occupied France. The ceremony, shadowed by the ongoing war in Ukraine, honored the dead and the living who defended democracy. French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to several veterans, and U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of standing against dictatorships. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's presence highlighted current parallels to WWII sacrifices. As veterans shared memories, the focus remained on remembering the sacrifices made for freedom.

Gulfport Little Theatre planning to restore after being ransacked by thieves
SUMMARY: In 2020, Gulfport Little Theatre disbanded due to the pandemic, expecting a short hiatus. However, a two-week closure extended to two years, leading to the theatre's prolonged shutdown. Four years later, former members are striving to restore it, facing severe challenges such as vandalism and theft, including damage to electrical wiring and plumbing. The building has also suffered significant disrepair. Former board member Bill Young stresses the need for community support, especially for a commercial property appraisal, to quantify the restoration costs. The theatre, a community entertainment hub for over seventy years, is now seeking the community's help to rejuvenate.

The liftoff was the 100th launch of an Atlas V rocket and the first with astronauts since John Glenn's Mercury era. SpaceX first launched astronauts in 2020 and has since conducted multiple missions.
