Former Mississippi school financial secretary pleads guilty to embezzlement

SUMMARY: Dana Walker, the former financial secretary at H.W. Byers High School in , Miss., pled guilty to embezzling $39,471.70 in school activity funds between August 2020 and February 2022. She was initially in February 2022 by Marshall County School District , and the case was later investigated by the Auditor's Office. Walker collected funds from and staff for items like senior dues, athletic uniforms, and fundraisers, but failed to properly document and deposit these funds. Sentencing is for August 13, 2024. Suspected fraud can be reported to the State Auditor's Office online or by phone.
