Amtrak holds groundbreaking ceremony for layover track and platform
SUMMARY: Amtrak service is set to return to South Mississippi after two decades, thanks to a $178 million grant announced by Senator Roger Wicker. This funding will help restore the route from Mobile to New Orleans, which has been inactive since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The announcement coincided with a groundbreaking ceremony in Downtown Mobile for a crucial layover track. The service aims to reconnect coastal cities and enhance access to the Gulf Coast. Amtrak will operate two daily trains from Mobile to New Orleans, stopping at four South Mississippi cities: Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula, starting in 2025.
The layover track and platform was one of the remaining hurdles to restoring the route. For more Local News from WLOX: …

10/22 – Trey Tonnessen's “Living Room” Tuesday Night Forecast
SUMMARY: Good evening, South Mississippi! The weather is calm and pleasant along the Gulf Coast, with conditions expected to remain stable throughout the week. Tonight will be clear, with gentle breezes, creating a fall-like atmosphere. While an upper-level system brings rain to the Midwest, it won’t affect our tranquil forecast here. Expect only a slight increase in moisture and temperatures later in the week. Currently, the area is dry, leading to normal river levels and no flood concerns. While some western regions may experience record highs, our temperatures are comfortably in the mid to upper 60s. Enjoy the beautiful weather!
