What you should know before hitting the road or the sky
SUMMARY: During the holiday season, the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) emphasizes the importance of road safety, as the Thanksgiving travel period is underway from today until November 26th. With busy state highways and interstates, MHP urges drivers to remember the basic rules of driving. They advise drivers to get adequate rest, avoid driving while drowsy or impaired by alcohol or medications, buckle up, ensure children are properly restrained, put down cell phones, and obey speed limits. With over 4.7 million people expected to fly, delays are likely, especially at larger airports. Travelers are advised to arrive at least two hours early for flights, be patient with potential delays, and work cooperatively with airline staff. MHP also suggests that those driving to their holiday destinations familiarize themselves with the routes and potential construction to be well-prepared.
