The Salvation Army is adding new rules to its shelter

SUMMARY: The Salvation Army in Tupelo is implementing new rules at their shelter to enhance safety for staff and residents. Bags are now being checked for weapons and substances, and additional safety measures will be introduced next month. Starting from October 1st, the shelter will also apply a fee scale, where the first 14 days will be free, followed by $10 per night for the next 46 days, and $15 per night after 60 days. The goal is to encourage accountability and preparedness for independent living. This will create more space for emergency housing and help those in need.

Representatives from the Mississippi Aquarium joined WTVA 9 News TODAY to talk about their new facility, a virtual reality experience and the year of the penguin.
