SUMMARY: A bill proposing the transfer of control of the Mississippi for Women (MUW) to Mississippi University is moving quickly through the Senate committees. If passed, starting from July 1, 2025, MUW would transfer all assets to MSU and be known as “The W at Mississippi State University.” This could impact faculty, staff, and of both institutions. Current and former students are expressing strong feelings about the potential changes, with concerns about the impact on campus culture, affordability, historical significance, and the of Columbus. MSU President Mark Keenum has stated that the university did not propose or initiate this bill.
