Singing River Orthopedic Surgeon is First in Mississippi to Perform Augmented Reality Surgery
SUMMARY: Dr. Philip Myers of Singing River Orthopedics in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, is the first surgeon in the state to use augmented reality (AR) technology during hip replacement surgeries. He has successfully performed three hip replacements using the HipInsight system, the world’s first mixed reality-based digital surgery platform for total hip arthroplasty. This technology gives surgeons “x-ray vision,” enhancing accuracy and reducing radiation exposure. Surgeons wear a headset to view 3D images of the patient’s anatomy, based on preoperative CT scans. Dr. Myers uses this technology particularly for patients with abnormal bony anatomy or previous hip replacements.

US stocks inch to more records as inflation slows and Oracle soars
SUMMARY: Wall Street reached new highs as a surprising slowdown in U.S. wholesale inflation and Oracle’s optimistic AI-driven growth forecast boosted market sentiment. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, hitting records for a second day, while the Dow fell 0.5%, dragged down by Apple. Traders anticipate the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next week to support the economy without triggering inflation or recession. Oracle’s shares surged 35.9% after projecting cloud AI revenue to jump significantly, while chipmaker TSMC also saw gains. European markets were mixed, and U.S. Treasury yields dropped, reflecting hopes for easing monetary policy amid controlled inflation.

US supply chain prices unexpectedly fell 0.1% in August
SUMMARY: In August, U.S. producer prices unexpectedly fell 0.1% from July, signaling a slowdown in wholesale inflation after a 0.7% rise the previous month. Core producer prices, excluding food and energy, also declined 0.1%. Despite tariffs imposed by President Trump, their impact on inflation remains muted as wholesalers and retailers absorb costs amid weak demand and supplier discounts. Some imported goods, like coffee, have risen significantly. The drop in producer prices suggests consumer inflation may rise slightly but remains modest. This trend increases expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates soon, amid signs of a weakening economy.

Cracker Barrel suspends plans to remodel restaurants
SUMMARY: Cracker Barrel is suspending its restaurant remodels after longtime fans criticized changes to its design and logo. The company remodeled four of its 660 locations, adding brighter lights, lighter paint, and simplified antiques while keeping key elements like fireplaces. CEO Julie Felss Masino, who launched the transformation plan in May 2024 to boost relevance and traffic, said customer feedback showed the modern design didn’t reflect what fans love. Despite initial positive responses, many customers opposed the updates and logo simplification, preferring the chain’s traditional, antique-style decor. Cracker Barrel will continue investing in maintaining its restaurants without major aesthetic changes.
