Respiratory illnesses rising as locals return from visiting with families
SUMMARY: The content advises people to always let someone know their whereabouts at night and seeks to raise awareness about the rising number of respiratory illnesses as people return from visiting family over the holidays. Health professionals at Alphacare Urgent Care in Gulfport say that patients are showing symptoms like congestion, coughing, sore throat, and nausea. The CDC reports an increase in positive cases of influenza A and B, COVID, and RSV nationwide, with New Mexico and Southeastern states being the hardest hit. The CDC recommends practicing social distancing, washing hands, and covering coughs, as well as isolating for a minimum of five days after symptom onset if diagnosed with COVID. Medications like Tamiflu and Xofluza may be helpful in lessening the severity and length of illness. In the final week of 2023, close to 30,000 people nationwide were affected by these illnesses.
