Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey doesn’t plan to step down amid pressure from NAACP
SUMMARY: The NAACP is calling for the removal of Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey after allegations of repeated abuse of power. Six officers, known as the “Goon Squad,” were found guilty of torturing and sexually assaulting two Black men during a raid. Bailey received a raise shortly after the incident, and it was revealed that he used his position to obtain phone records from his then-girlfriend. The NAACP hopes to gather 30,000 signatures from registered county residents to convince Bailey to resign, but he has stated that he will not step down. Bailey is currently running unopposed for a fourth term as sheriff.
