Okolona Elementary students make goodie bags for local grandmothers

Another lawsuit filed against Rankin County sheriff
SUMMARY: The Rankin County Sheriff's Office is facing a new federal lawsuit alleging that “goon squad” Deputy Christian Dedmon and others tortured a man with a K-9. The lawsuit, filed on April 30, names Sheriff Bryan Bailey and Dedmon as defendants, among others. The incident occurred in 2021 when Bobbie Adams was allegedly bitten by a K-9 named Voodoo after being arrested for a meth sale. Adams claims he was already handcuffed and not resisting arrest when the dog attacked him, causing punctured wounds and bone dislocation. Adams, who is serving time for the sale of methamphetamines, is seeking justice through this lawsuit.

Canton Flea Market kicks off early
SUMMARY: More than 600 vendors will be selling a variety of items at the Canton Square flea market, including home decor and Mother's Day gifts. The event is highly anticipated each year, with hundreds of people attending. Vendors enjoy showcasing their offerings and one vendor expressed his enthusiasm for the event despite his age. The market is held twice a year, but some hope for more frequent events to attract more visitors. The flea market will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, providing a great opportunity for attendees to shop and explore the offerings.

MSU White Coat Ceremony
SUMMARY: Master students at MSU Meridian celebrated their achievement at a white coat ceremony for the 2024 class of Masters of physician assistant study students. Parents and supporters applauded as students received their white coats, symbolizing their transition from didactic to clinical training. After 29 months of education, students will graduate and become licensed physician assistants, ready to fill the void in the medical field. They can pursue various specialties, such as emergency medicine, surgery, family medicine, OBGYN, and pediatrics. The graduation ceremony will take place at MSU Meridian's Riley Center, open to all, tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Congratulations to the students on their hard work and dedication.
