Ocean Springs High Cross Country’s Addison Rainey wins Gatorade Player of the Year
The Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross County Player of the Year Award is staying on the Gulf Coast.
Today, Ocean Springs Sophomore Standout Addison Rainey took home the honors following the four-year run of former News 25 Student Athlete of the Week Brooklyn Biancamano.
This season, the 5'4” speedster racing her way to the 6A individual state championship with a 5K time of 19 minutes 10 seconds.
Her efforts also lead the Greyhounds to the state crown as a team and she maintains a 4.26 weighted GPA in the classroom.

SUMMARY: Pass Christian High School track and field team will host the regional meet on their home track this Saturday. The team's success in the district meet led to this opportunity. Key athletes include Anaya Bradley, Harmony Walker, and Ollie “Trae” Bailey, who have shown impressive performances. Coach Roscoe Forch commends their dedication and growth over the years. Walker is currently the fastest girl in the state, while Bailey broke a mile record. Bradley, a WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, aims to continue running in college. Overall, the team's success and hard work have led to a chance at state competitions.

Crafting Rum in South Mississippi: Circle Hook Distilling
SUMMARY: Circle Hook Distilling in Gulfport, Mississippi is the first legal distillery in Harrison County, producing award-winning rum. Co-owners Eli and Amy Underhill transitioned from commercial fishing to rum production, emphasizing quality ingredients and processes. They source Grade-A molasses and cane syrup from local sugar mills, along with well water from Harrison County for fermentation. Their handcrafted rum is aged in New American oak barrels, resulting in a versatile final product. In just three years, Circle Hook has expanded distribution to three states. The couple also collaborates with local artists for label design, embodying the spirit of Mississippi and the Gulf Coast.

Almost 3,500 Mississippi Veterans have enrolled in VA health care in past 365 days, 28% increase over last year
SUMMARY: The Department of Veterans Affairs has enrolled a record number of Veterans in VA health care in Mississippi and nationally. This historic enrollment is the result of aggressive outreach efforts, including events, advertising campaigns, and text messages to encourage Veterans to enroll. VA's goal is to ensure that all eligible Veterans receive the best and most affordable care available. VA has also expanded health care eligibility for Veterans exposed to toxins and hazards while serving in the military, allowing more Veterans to enroll directly in VA health care. The VA is continuing to reach out to Veterans to encourage them to apply for their health care and benefits.
