New residency programs announced for Laurel hospital

The hospital is finalizing an Internal Medicine Residency program in partnership with William Carey University, aiming to accept its first class of 10 residents next summer. This three-year program will ultimately host 30 residents. Governor Reeves emphasized that increasing medical residencies in rural areas will attract physicians, as they typically practice within a 50-mile radius of their training locations, ensuring the sustainability of rural hospitals. A Family Medicine Residency is also planned for 2026.
