Nearly 175 cadets graduate from Youth Challenge Academy
SUMMARY: Dozens of students from across Mississippi, including the newest graduates of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program, participated in a graduation ceremony. The program provides at-risk teens and other students a second chance to get their education, obtain job skills, and learn valuable values. Graduates spoke about how the program helped them physically and mentally, and opened opportunities for them in life. The graduation day also recognized the staff members who worked with the students in each class, and the students who performed over 10,000 hours of community service work.

SUMMARY: On a holiday, an employee at a hotel in Natchez was involved in an altercation with a guest, leading to the employee firing shots at vehicles in the parking lot. The incident took place around 11 on a Saturday, with two unoccupied cars being hit but no injuries reported. The employee, James Billing, was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of firing into an unoccupied vehicle. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but the employee is in custody facing serious charges for his actions.

SUMMARY: A murder suspect from Texas, Marcus Thompson, was captured in Warren County after a manhunt. The suspect was found in a wooded area following a call about his car registered to a homicide victim. Thompson was captured at 6:15 in the morning after eluding authorities throughout the night. Two deputies spotted him walking out of the woods and took him into custody without incident. Thompson may have a hearing in Justice Court to decide on extradition back to Texas. If he agrees, he could be headed back to Texas in the next day or two. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace led the search and capture efforts with the help of multiple agencies.
