Mississippi Supreme Court rejects latest appeal of man on death row since 1976
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Supreme Court unanimously denied the appeal of 78-year-old Richard Gerald Jordan, who has been on death row for nearly 50 years for the 1976 kidnapping and murder of Edwina Marter. Jordan, originally unemployed and desperate for money, broke into the Marter home while posing as an electric company worker. After murdering Marter and demanding ransom, he was eventually captured by police. Despite numerous appeals since his sentencing, he continues to challenge the state‘s execution methods. As of now, there is no set execution date, but his attorneys plan to have his case reheard.

SUMMARY: The 2025 Dixie National Rodeo will take place at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds from February 7-9 and 12-16.
