Mississippi power companies deploying to help in wake of Hurricane Milton
SUMMARY: As Hurricane Milton approaches the Florida Gulf Coast, expected to make landfall as a Category 4 storm, utility companies from Mississippi are mobilizing to aid affected areas. Entergy Mississippi’s crews, previously restoring power in Virginia from Hurricane Helene, are on standby. Meanwhile, Dixie Electric Power Association has sent 19 linemen to assist Peace River Electric in Florida. These efforts reflect the commitment of utility workers, who are leaving their families to help restore power, as millions may experience outages due to the hurricane. Mississippi itself is not anticipated to be impacted by the storm.

Mississippi State fined $500K after storming field in celebration of win over Arizona State
SUMMARY: Mississippi State became the first SEC football program fined for field-storming under the conference’s increased $500,000 penalty. After a thrilling 24-20 victory over No. 12 Arizona State, fans stormed the field at Davis Wade Stadium. Since the game was nonconference, the fine goes to the SEC’s post-graduate scholarship fund. The Bulldogs overcame a 20-point deficit late in the game, with Blake Shapen’s late touchdown pass securing the win. However, the team faces setbacks as defensive lineman Will Whitson and offensive lineman Blake Steen are out for the season. Mississippi State’s next game is a home contest against Alcorn State.
