Despite this, Democratic opposition led to its demise before the legislative deadline, preventing it from reaching Gov. Tate Reeves. Mississippi has previously passed laws on gender-related issues, bans on transgender athletes in women's and gender-affirming care for minors.

From the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Mississippi 's David Mershon and Khal Stephen earned first-team All-SEC honors, while Dakota Jordan made the second team. 's Andrew Fischer was named to the second team. In the Sun Belt, Southern Miss had five players honored: Billy Oldham and Slade Wilks on the first team, and Ozzie Pratt, Dalton McIntyre, and Niko Mazza on the second team.
