Medicaid drops another 22,000 Mississippians, mostly for paperwork issues
SUMMARY: Since May of this year, Mississippi has been reviewing the eligibility of those enrolled in Medicaid. After the July eligibility checks, over 22,000 Mississippians have been kicked off the program, with over 18,000 children losing Medicaid coverage. The President of the Mississippi Hospital Association, Tim Moore, believes that the more disenrollments they see, the higher the cost will be for Mississippi's hospitals. In a statement, Moore emphasized the need to advocate for extending coverage to low-wage earners who do not qualify for assistance or cannot afford health coverage. In total, 51,967 Mississippians have lost coverage since the process began.
