Mayor talks Sumrall projects
SUMMARY: The town of Sumrall is rolling into the new year with several planned projects, centered around improvements to the downtown area. Mayor Joel Lofton says the town is partnering with a town-funded lighting project to improve visibility in the busiest parts of Sumrall. Construction crews are working on new sidewalks, while also clearing space for another improvement, and enhancing the Rocky Branch Park. The area is near completion and improved lighting will address safety in Sumrall.
The board of aldermen recently approved bids to begin installing new sidewalks along Main Street.

Long-time Jackson Church moving to Ridgeland
SUMMARY: Meadowbrook Church of Christ in Jackson, prominent for 60 years, is relocating to Sunnybrook Children's Home in Ridgeland to make room for a new elementary school campus. St. Richard Catholic School has purchased the Meadowbrook property for $2.5 million and plans to move in by next year. Father Joe Tonos of St. Richard welcomed the move, citing previous enrollment and infrastructure issues at their old location. The move is viewed positively by faculty, parents, and church members, with hopes for stronger community engagement. Meanwhile, existing buildings at St. Richard will be repurposed for parish use.

New program will teach Jacksonians how the water system works
SUMMARY: Jackson Water is launching a new educational initiative called the Jackson Water Academy. Starting next month, the program will offer three two-hour sessions on the water system, treatment processes, billing, and sustainability. The aim is to provide insight into the efforts taken to rehabilitate the system and ensure its future sustainability. Applications for the June event are open, with a deadline at the end of May. Overnight lane closure in Madison County
SUMMARY: The Planning Committee will discuss the matter at Tuesday's City Council meeting. M-DOT is preparing for overnight roadwork, starting at 7:00 PM tonight and continuing through 6:00 AM until Thursday. Crews will close lanes on the I-55 bridges over Highway 51 and the CNIC Railroad in Madison County to perform a concrete overlay. This work is part of an ongoing effort to repair the bridges.
