Mathiston man found guilty of assaulting officers during January 6 Capitol riot

A Mathiston man has been found guilty of nine felonies for his role during the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Thomas Smith, 44, along with his cousin, Alabama resident Donnie Wren, traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the rally, according to reporting from the Mississippi Free Press.

When the two arrived, Smith made his way through Capitol Hill Tunnel before trying to smash a window and forcing entry into the Capitol Building. Smith and company then shoved through police on the Upper West Terrace. Smith proceeded to kick down an officer and throw a metal pole at another…
