Lowndes County correctional officer locked up for smuggling contraband into jail

Mississippi airports to get more than $21 million in federal grants
SUMMARY: Mississippi airports have received 52 grants totaling $21.48 million from the FAA’s Airport Improvement and Infrastructure Grant programs. Announced by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, the funding supports upgrades to airport systems statewide to boost economic development. The Airport Improvement Program awarded $11.58 million to multiple cities and counties, including Jackson Municipal Airport Authority ($3.2 million) and several others like Hattiesburg, Greenville, and Gulfport. The Airport Infrastructure Grant distributed $9.9 million to various municipalities, including Jackson, Tupelo, Olive Branch, and others. Since 2022, FAA funding to Mississippi airports has exceeded $83 million.

C Spire Liftoff program offers high school juniors and seniors real-world job experience
SUMMARY: Mississippi-based C Spire is launching the Liftoff externship program for Jackson metro area high school juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The program offers real-world experience in three tracks: Technical (cybersecurity, networking, IT, software development), Business (accounting, finance, operations, supply chain), and Creative (digital marketing, PR, social media, sports marketing). Students will gain essential skills and network with industry professionals. Select participants will receive one-time scholarships for in-state colleges. Applications, requiring a recommendation letter and essay, are due by August 31, with up to 10 students chosen for fall externship at C Spire headquarters.

Holmes Community College breaks ground on new building for health programs
SUMMARY: Holmes Community College broke ground on a new Health Science Building at its Ridgeland campus, designed to house nursing, occupational therapy assistant, and surgical technology programs. The facility will include classrooms, offices, and a large multipurpose space seating up to 530, supporting community events. Director Allison DeWeese highlighted the building as a long-awaited vision to expand health science offerings. Vice President Bronwyn Martin emphasized the building’s significance for student growth and visibility in rapidly expanding Madison County, visible from Interstate 55. The project involves Thrash Commercial Contractors and several engineering and architectural firms. Holmes was established in 1911 and has multiple campuses throughout Mississippi.
