Louisiana man sentenced to 7 years after attempting to distribute fentanyl into Mississippi
SUMMARY: In a recent drug trafficking case, 23-year-old Santena Elie of Covington, Louisiana, was sentenced to seven years in prison. The investigation, which spanned two states, was carried out by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. In August last year, agents tracked a vehicle from a Bay St. Louis motel to a parking lot in Louisiana, where a drug transaction with Elie took place. Upon returning to Mississippi, the vehicle was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of approximately 1,000 fentanyl-laced pills.
Santana Phillipe Elzy, 23, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Gulfport on Thursday.

FIRST ALERT: Rain chances continue throughout the week (6/17/2025)
SUMMARY: Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue across South Mississippi, with periods of heavy rain and localized flash flooding possible through midweek. Tuesday afternoon saw a brief break for many, though storms lingered near Poplarville and northern Pearl River County. High humidity and cloud cover kept temperatures mostly in the 80s. The rainy pattern, driven by a trough between high-pressure systems, persists through Thursday and Friday. Rain chances decrease this weekend as a ridge builds, bringing drier conditions and rising temperatures into the 90s. Despite the heat and humidity, the tropics remain quiet for now, with no development expected over the next week.
Meteorologist Taylor Graham has the latest on rain chances continuing throughout the rest of the week.

FIRST ALERT: More chances for rain this week, upcoming forecast (6/15/2025)
SUMMARY: Scattered showers and storms continued across South Mississippi over Father’s Day weekend and are expected to persist into Monday and Tuesday. A waterspout came ashore near Gulfport and Long Beach, quickly dissipating. While rain chances taper off overnight, daytime heating will fuel more storms early this week, with possible localized flooding due to saturated ground. A pattern shift later in the week will reduce storm coverage but increase temperatures. Highs will reach the low 90s on the coast and mid-90s inland by the weekend. Despite the heat, the tropics remain quiet with no development expected over the next seven days.
Meteorologist Taylor Graham has the latest on this week’s chances for rain and the upcoming forecast.
