Joe Biden drops out of presidential race
SUMMARY: Joe Biden is exiting the Democratic presidential race due to two significant factors. First, his debate performance against Donald Trump highlighted his age, leading to concerns about his ability to effectively advocate for the American people, which caused panic among donors and lawmakers. Second, Democrats are anxious about defeating Trump, viewing a potential second term as a threat to democracy and the constitutional republic. They fear his proposed policies could worsen inflation and debt, and jeopardize international alliances. This overriding fear has prompted calls for a new candidate for president.
President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House on Sunday, ending his bid for reelection after a disastrous debate with Donald Trump that raised doubts about the incumbent’s fitness for office with the election just four months away. It was a late-season campaign thunderstrike unlike any in American history: https://www.11alive.com/article/news/nation-world/biden-withdraws-2024-election/507-92f6f16b-20d9-4af2-b4a0-7123957571f5

Trump calls on all NATO countries to stop buying Russian oil, threatens 50% to 100% tariffs on China
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump stated that the Russia-Ukraine war would end if all NATO countries stopped buying Russian oil and imposed 50% to 100% tariffs on China for its Russian petroleum purchases. Trump criticized some NATO members, like Turkey, Hungary, and Slovakia, for continuing to buy Russian oil, weakening NATO’s position. He downplayed recent Russian drone incursions into Poland, calling them possibly accidental. The U.S. and allies seek stronger resolve against Russia, with Britain banning Russian oil transportation vessels and sanctioning suppliers. Trump blamed Joe Biden and Ukraine’s Zelenskyy for the war, excluding Putin. The proposed tariffs risk economic fallout amid complex U.S.-China trade relations.
