Jackson hospitals’ psychiatric beds are full weeks after St. Dominic closed behavioral health
SUMMARY: Two hospitals in the Jackson area of Mississippi are unable to accept new psychiatric patients, as they are at full capacity. The University of Mississippi Medical Center and Merit Health Central have been on psychiatric diversion since July 4. The closure of St. Dominic’s behavioral health services unit in June has put strain on the remaining facilities. Patients are being referred to the nearest available facility, but some have to wait in emergency departments until a bed becomes available. SUMMARY: Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without parole for the brutal 2022 stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students.
