Jackson County Animal Shelter overwhelmed: Community urged to step in
SUMMARY: The Jackson County Animal Shelter in Mississippi is overwhelmed, taking in about 17 animals daily and currently at full capacity, forcing a temporary halt on owner surrenders. Staff urge the community to foster, adopt, and share shelter posts to help ease overcrowding. Local rescue groups like Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets, Wags and Whiskers, and Tire Dog Rescue are assisting but also need foster homes. Most animals are owner surrenders or abandoned. Preventative steps such as spaying, neutering, microchipping, and securing pets can help. Fostering saves lives and is vital to reducing shelter crowding.
