How safe are the bridges over the Mississippi River?
SUMMARY: Vicksburg, Mississippi, with two inspections scheduled each year on the heavily traveled Mississippi River Bridge. Built in the 1930s and 1970s, these bridges are iconic symbols of the city and play a crucial role in transportation. With thousands of vehicles crossing daily, safety is a top priority, especially during high water conditions. The bridge is designed to withstand strikes from vessels due to the constant barge and tug traffic on the river. Despite being hit multiple times, the bridge is built differently from the recently collapsed Baltimore bridge, providing reassurance to the community in Vicksburg.
