Hope for PDCD: A local mom is pushing lawmakers to place PDCD on the national newborn screening

SUMMARY: Nikki Kivitz is advocating for her daughter Abigail, who has been diagnosed with PDCD, a disease that affects her body's ability to metabolize carbohydrates. Kivitz is pushing for more awareness of PDCD and for it to be included in national newborn screening. She has been meeting with lawmakers in Washington, DC to advocate for PDCD, as it is highly underdiagnosed. Kivitz is part of the foundation for PDCD, which aims to fund genetic therapy research. She urges viewers to contact their representatives to PDCD in newborn screening and to to the foundation. Together, they are working to save 's lives affected by PDCD.

A local mom is working to spread awareness for a rare, altering disease called Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Deficiency.
