Historic Ocean Springs church celebrates 132 years
SUMMARY: Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Ocean Springs celebrated its 132nd anniversary with a Veterans Day luncheon and special service. The church, a historic symbol in the local black community, is led by Chairman Greg Gibson and was formerly pastored by Jesse Lee Trotter, who became the city's first black alderman. Concerns arose when an urban renewal map labeled homes as ‘blighted,' prompting the ‘We Shall not be Moved Coalition' to organize against potential redevelopment. Despite revisions to the map excluding residential properties, the community remains wary. The revised urban renewal map awaits a vote on November 21st. Mayor Holloway insists there was no intention to displace residents.

Boy Scouts of America changing name to more inclusive Scouting America after years of woes
SUMMARY: The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to Scouting America as part of a significant shift towards inclusion and to increase membership numbers. The organization has made seismic changes in recent years, including allowing gay youth, welcoming girls, and accepting them into its flagship program. The move to accept girls strained the organization's relationship with the Girl Scouts of the USA but they reached a settlement. The Boy Scouts emerged from bankruptcy last year, compensating victims of sexual abuse. The organization aims to provide structured activities for children and teach important life skills, with the official name change set for 2025.
