SUMMARY: Hinds County Supervisors held a meeting to discuss the extensive damage caused by powerful thunderstorms in Northeast Jackson. The damage includes downed trees, power outages, and destruction of homes. According to MEMA, one home was destroyed, 13 had major damage, 12 had minor damage, and 11 were affected. The Emergency Operations Center Director declared a state of emergency due to the number of injuries and destroyed homes. People without power are also suffering from heat-related illnesses, and there have been car accidents in areas where traffic lights are not functioning. The FEMA threshold for an emergency declaration has not yet been met.

SUMMARY: Parts of the region could see storms on Father’s Day, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. Afternoon storms may bring gusty winds and hail, though severe weather is not expected. Monday follows a similar pattern with scattered afternoon storms. A high-pressure system will move in by Thursday, bringing well-above-average temperatures. Heat indices may reach 107–110 degrees by Friday, especially west of I-55 in Mississippi. The week ahead will remain hot and humid, with increasingly oppressive heat expected through the weekend. Stay weather-aware and hydrated amid the steamy conditions.
