The Election Commissioner, Ratoya McGee, apologized to voters and stated that they ordered 10% more ballots than required by state law, but it still wasn’t enough. Turnout in Hinds County was lower compared to four years ago. The Circuit Clerk, Zack Wallace, helped print new ballots when they ran out. County Administrator Kenny Wayne Jones blamed the Election Commission for dropping the ball on a critical election. The Mississippi Democratic Party and Mississippi Votes filed lawsuits to extend voting hours due to the shortage.
