Hattiesburg expects economic boom from football, soccer games
SUMMARY: This weekend will see both Southern Miss opening its football season against Alcorn State and the HFC Cane's Labor Day Classic, with over 130 soccer teams participating. Hotels, restaurants, and shops are predicted to benefit greatly from the events, with an estimated $8 million in new money coming into the city. The high demand has already resulted in most hotel rooms being fully booked, and the revenue generated from these events is greatly appreciated by the city. Sumrall Seeks 2nd State Title in 3 seasons
SUMMARY: The Bobcats have advanced to the state championship, which was their goal, thanks to a tough schedule that prepared them well. They've defeated five of the six teams on their schedule that reached their own state championships. In the 4A final, they'll face Ripley, a team new to the Big Dance in decades. Bobcats coach, Sumrall, believes their experience gives them an edge to win a second title in three years. The team is built on a high standard of success with a deep lineup that poses a threat every pitch. Three area teams will compete for titles this week, starting with West Marion on Tuesday.
