Half of states will see a hotter-than-normal start to 2024. Will Mississippi be spared?
SUMMARY: The first day of winter was marked by warm weather outlooks released by national forecasters. The Climate Prediction Center's updated outlook shows about half of states expecting hotter-than-average weather between January and March, due to El Niño growing stronger. The precipitation outlook for the start of 2024 shows the southern United States is expected to be wetter, while the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Ohio Valley tend to be dry and warm. This winter's El Niño is likely to be historically strong, and its duration is uncertain, with forecasts suggesting it would end between April and June next year.
