Gulfport Police searching for suspect in stabbing case

SUMMARY: Gulfport Police are seeking 49-year-old Octavius LL Benton in connection with a serious stabbing that took place on the 2600 block of 19th Street. The victim, found at the scene, is now in a serious condition at hospital. Benton is 5'6″, 145 pounds, and has brown eyes and a bald head. He is considered dangerous and armed, and a warrant for aggravated assault has been issued against him. Local police and Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers are asking for public assistance to locate him.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
