Gulfport man sentenced to life for first-degree murder
SUMMARY: This morning, a Goport man named Philip Collins was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder. He pled guilty to killing another man in 2021. The victim was found unresponsive in his home on 25th street by his daughter. Officials say Collins admitted to stabbing the victim to death.
District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced Tuesday that 53-year-old Phillip Collins of Gulfport pled guilty to killing James Higgins in November of 2021.

South Mississippi schools recognized for reading success
