Gulfport man convicted of manslaughter

SUMMARY: Demonte Lavell Williams, 29, of has been found guilty of manslaughter a four-day jury trial. The jury deliberated for two hours before returning the verdict. Williams was taken into custody and will be on October 12, 2023. The incident occurred on June 14, 2021, when Williams fired four shots at a man outside a O'Reilly Auto Parts store after an argument. The victim had allegedly assaulted Williams's vehicle and confronted him over a prior comment about his deceased brother. Williams faces a potential 20 years imprisonment.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Force cadets from the of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
