Mississippi farmers recovering from 2023 drought
SUMMARY: Last year, Mississippi farmers faced severe drought and high temperatures, but the situation has improved significantly. Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson reported that 73% of Mississippi now has adequate soil moisture, with only 2% still very dry. Farmers, who previously struggled with near-zero hay supplies, have begun hay production successfully. Despite some regions in the U.S. experiencing drought conditions, Mississippi's major crops like cotton, corn, and soybeans have been planted and are growing well due to sufficient rainfall. Farmers are grateful for the rain, and cotton planting has increased compared to the previous year.
