Flowood man sentenced for possessing thousands of images of child porn
SUMMARY: Flowood man Timothy Daniel Steele, also known as Timothy Daniel Gantenbein, was sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for possessing abusive child pornography materials. He was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release. Steele, 26, had thousands of images and videos depicting adult men engaging in sex with minor children. He pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and was ordered to pay restitution of $324,876.39 to his victims. Steele will also be required to register as a sex offender. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Flowood Police Department.

Hinds County supervisor expelled after bringing gun to meeting
SUMMARY: Hinds County Board of Supervisors expelled District 2 Supervisor Tony Smith from a meeting for carrying a firearm without a concealed carry permit. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones noticed Smith's gun under his jacket during a recess and addressed the issue. District 1 Supervisor Robert Graham stated they followed protocol based on the sheriff's advice. Smith was escorted to his vehicle, and the Board voted to expel him for the rest of the meeting. Smith did not have an enhanced carry permit, and no charges have been filed against him. Attempts to reach Smith for comment were unsuccessful.

Volunteers travel miles to help Columbus man fix his home
SUMMARY: Glen Spitler, a retired U.S. veteran from Columbus, Mississippi, needed urgent roof repairs for his aging home. Persistent leaks over five years caused additional damage, and his insurance wouldn't cover the repairs due to the roof's age. With assistance from the United Way of the Greater Golden Triangle and a dedicated volunteer group from Pennsylvania's Mennonite Services, Spitler's home is now being repaired.
