FIRST ALERT: Update on the tropics, upcoming forecast (10/19/2024)
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Aaron Colby forecasts a warm Saturday with breezy conditions, expecting highs in the low 80s. Morning temperatures will gradually rise from the 50s to the 60s later in the week. Dry weather persists due to abnormally low rainfall this October, with drought conditions reported in parts of Jackson and George County. The tropics show potential for development near the Caribbean, but current systems pose no threat to the Gulf Coast. Meanwhile, tropical storm Theine heads toward Central America. Over the next week, expect continued dry, warm weather with no significant rainfall.

SUMMARY: The weather across South Mississippi remains calm and warm, with temperatures in the 70s. A cold front moving through Texas brings showers and thunderstorms to the north, but the Magnolia State stays quiet. Overnight, temperatures will stay mild in the lower 70s, thanks to cloud cover. By Thursday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with Friday holding a higher chance for stronger storms. Saturday will see lingering rain, but after the front moves through, humidity will decrease, making for a pleasant weekend. A weather alert is advised for Thursday and Friday.
SUMMARY: The 2025 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is nearing its conclusion, with the winner set to be announced live on air. The giveaway, held in Gulfport, has featured several prize winners, including Frank from Hass Christian (golf prize), Paul Buarge of Ocean Springs (new car), and Janette from Gulfport (Southern Charm gift card). The home, valued at $450,000, is located in Florence Gardens. Over 10,200 tickets were sold this year, marking a record-breaking achievement. The event is a significant fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with heartfelt contributions from the local community and sponsors like Florence Gardens and Clark Builders.
All money raised from the Dream Home giveaway goes directly to St. Jude Children’s Hospital to help kids battling cancer.

Mississippi Department of Transportation holds conference to provide updates on road projects
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) held a maintenance conference with over 200 employees, where Executive Director Brad White shared updates on road projects. Nearly every highway in South Mississippi is undergoing construction to improve or repair infrastructure. Major projects include widening I-10 in Harrison County to improve traffic flow, expected to be completed by 2027. The emergency bridge and road program, funded with $100 million but facing $900 million in applications, supports local bridge improvements. White emphasized the need for a state budget agreement to continue projects, assuring taxpayers that 97% of the budget directly funds road improvements.
Over 200 MDOT maintenance employees across the state had a chance to hear some updated information at an annual maintenance conference.
