First Alert: High heat index values for the first day of Summer (06/20/2025)
SUMMARY: On the first day of summer, South Mississippi faces very high heat index values, with temperatures reaching the low 90s and heat indexes at or above 108, prompting a heat advisory until 7 p.m. The longest day of the year brings intense sun, and a strong high-pressure ridge is causing a heat wave across the eastern U.S. Humidity will remain very high, making outdoor activities risky due to heat exhaustion and heat stroke dangers. The heat index could exceed 110 on Saturday, with only low chances of scattered afternoon showers or storms providing minimal relief. Hydration and shade are essential.
Meteorologist Aaron Colby details how we will begin a stretch of several days with very high heat index values. Plus, how a few stray showers and storms will be possible this afternoon and evening.

First Alert: Hot and humid with scattered storms as Summer officially approaches (06/19/2025)
SUMMARY: As summer approaches, South Mississippi faces hot, humid conditions with scattered afternoon and evening storms expected today and tomorrow. A strong high-pressure ridge will move into the eastern U.S., reducing rain chances and pushing temperatures into the low to mid-90s, with inland areas possibly reaching mid to upper 90s. Heat index values may rise to 100-110°, increasing heat-related risks, so outdoor plans should include hydration and cooling options. The Atlantic hurricane season remains quiet with no expected tropical systems in the next week, while Hurricane Eric recently made landfall in southern Mexico. Overall, summer heat and humidity dominate the forecast.
