Federal assistance for severe storms not yet available for Jasper, Jackson Counties

SUMMARY: Federal assistance is not yet available for Jackson and Jasper Counties in Mississippi, which were hit by severe storms and tornadoes last month. Approximately 341 homes and businesses in Jackson County were damaged or destroyed, and over 18% of debris has been collected in Moss Point. One fatality and nearly two dozen injuries were reported in Jasper County, along with damage to an estimated 72 homes. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are currently assessing the damage and will begin assessing infrastructure damage in Jackson County. Residents are encouraged to file insurance claims and await further updates on federal assistance.
