Dry duck season leaves many hunters hopeful for next season
SUMMARY: Duck migration in Mississippi and the Southeast was extremely low this season due to a dry summer and fall, leading to the wetlands remaining dry. This caused a shortage of food and water resources for ducks, leading them to move further south. The lack of duck migration not only affected hunters, but also impacted efforts to manage wetlands and provide ecological goods and services. However, there is hope for next season, if conditions on the breeding grounds produce abundant duck populations and the weather and habitat conditions in Mississippi line up for the birds to show up.
