The dry conditions are affecting crops and cattle, leading to a major hit in both production and feed availability. The economic burden of the drought is still being calculated, with about 2/3 of the state being impacted. Grocery stores and farmer’s markets are experiencing shortages, with squash, cucumbers, and peanuts in shorter supply. Additionally, firefighters are battling a massive wildfire that started in August and keeps reigniting. The state remains under a burn ban, and farmers are seeking government assistance.
