Defense rests in William “Polo” Edwards case
SUMMARY: Polo Edwards is accused of killing a community activist in Jackson. The trial has reached its sixth day, with closing arguments being made and the jury currently in deliberation. The defense called five witnesses, including Polo Edwards' wife, who testified that they separated after she saw pictures of him with Shadow Robinson in Miami. Attorney Dennis Sweet also took the stand, recalling a call he received from Edwards, advising him to turn himself in. The state focused on cellphone tracking data, claiming Edwards ran from Lexington to New Orleans out of guilt, while the defense argued that the technology is unreliable and that Robinson was the one who shot and killed the activist. Edwards is charged with first-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm. More details will be provided in the 6 p.m. newscast.
