2 MSMS students named 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars
SUMMARY: Noah Curtis Lee and Iris Jiani Xue from Southaven, students at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus, have been named 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars. Out of the 3.7 million high school graduates this year, only 161 were recognized for their academic, artistic, or technical excellence alongside leadership and community service. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced the scholars, who were selected through evaluations, essays, and standardized tests. The program, since 1964, has commendably expanded to include arts and technical fields. The Class of 2024 will be celebrated with an online recognition program this summer.

Scholarships available for Mississippi students pursuing career in automotive industry

Greg Iles to celebrate release of new book ‘Southern Man’ with Jackson event
SUMMARY: Lemuria Books and the Mississippi Book Festival are hosting an event with author Greg Iles on May 28 at Cathead Distillery in Jackson to celebrate his new novel, “Southern Man.” The evening will start with happy hour at 5 p.m., followed by a reading and talk at 6:30 p.m. Despite battling blood cancer which prevents him from shaking hands or signing books, pre-signed copies will be available. Iles, who lives with multiple myeloma since 1996, has seen his condition worsen recently. “Southern Man” is the seventh book in the Penn Cage series and will soon be released nationwide.
