Caledonia middle schooler receives spelling bee trophy at school
SUMMARY: David Heyman, a seventh grader in Caledonia, was awarded a trophy for being the co-champion of the Mississippi Spelling Bee, along with Azariah Green of Hernando. Heyman studied around 4,000 words to prepare for the state competition and will now compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. where he will face a much larger pool of words from the dictionary. Kappler, from the Mississippi Spelling Bee, encourages teachers and parents to continue fostering children's love for language through reading programs. The National Spelling Bee will take place from May 26 to May 31 in Washington D.C.
