Burn ban in effect for all Mississippi state parks and fishing lakes
SUMMARY: Due to dry weather and increased wildfire activity, a statewide burn ban has been implemented in Mississippi State Parks and fishing lakes. This is a response to the elevated drought conditions, dry vegetation, and forecasted weather patterns. From August 1st, more than 150 wildfires have burned nearly 3,500 acres in the state. The Mississippi forestry commission predicts that the current seven-day forecast lacks the necessary rainfall to alleviate the drought. The burn ban prohibits the use of open fires, including campfires, bonfires, and fire pits. However, visitors can still use propane or gas grills, heaters, and charcoal grills for outdoor activities.
A burn ban is in effect for all Mississippi state parks and state fishing lakes until further notice.
