SUMMARY: Germantown High School’s football team is aiming for improvement in their second year under Head Coach Russell Mitchell. After a learning curve in 2022, the team is ready to rock and roll. With five wins last year and a solid defense, they believe they will be much improved this season. The team has notable players on their roster, including senior defensive back Trey Taylor, son of JSU Head Coach TK Taylor, and DJ Gainwell, the first cousin of Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell. Germantown is confident they can make noise in their division and aspire to be a state championship team. Their season will begin on the road.

Germantown believes they can compete with the best of the best going into 2023. They are in year two under Russell Mitchell and everyone on the staff and the players feel more confident in what they are doing day to day. The Mavericks aim to improve on a 5 win season and put 7A on notice.

SUMMARY: Parts of the region could see storms on Father’s Day, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. Afternoon storms may bring gusty winds and hail, though severe weather is not expected. Monday follows a similar pattern with scattered afternoon storms. A high-pressure system will move in by Thursday, bringing well-above-average temperatures. Heat indices may reach 107–110 degrees by Friday, especially west of I-55 in Mississippi. The week ahead will remain hot and humid, with increasingly oppressive heat expected through the weekend. Stay weather-aware and hydrated amid the steamy conditions.
