Alleged assault on officer while on bond

SUMMARY: William Earnest Westmoreland, a man from Tupelo, Mississippi, who was already out on bond for assault on a police officer, was accused of assaulting two officers during a traffic stop. When the officers tried to remove him from the vehicle, he resisted and attempted to grab one of their weapons. The officers tased him but with little effect. Bystanders helped the officers handcuff Westmoreland, but one officer was injured in the incident and will require further treatment for a back injury. A search of Westmoreland's vehicle revealed suspected marijuana and THC Edibles. He was booked into the Lee County Jail for felony assault on a police officer and ordered to be held without bond.

Belton's body was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Old Highway 49 east. A second suspect, Justin Thurmond, was previously arrested and also charged with murder. 2nd suspect arrested after Jackson man killed, baby kidnapped in August

SUMMARY: A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting and kidnapping that occurred in Jackson, Mississippi on August 30. Keyonte Charleston, 21, was charged with capital murder, kidnapping, burglary of an occupied dwelling, and armed robbery. The incident involved multiple suspects who wore masks and kicked in the back door of a residence, robbing the residents, killing Anthony Brown, and kidnapping a 10-month-old child at gunpoint. One suspect, Jazmyn Johnson, 18, was arrested the same day, and the baby was safely recovered. Warrants have also been issued for two other suspects, Tristin Goodlett, 17, and Shanicholaus Taylor, 20.

How gas prices have changed in Mississippi in the last week

This increase is largely due to the decision by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to cut oil production until the end of 2023. Additionally, lower refinery utilization rates have contributed to slightly higher prices in certain regions, such as the Midwest. These higher gas prices have played a role in the persistently high inflation rate seen in August. States with the largest increases in gas prices include Nevada, California, and Arizona. In Mississippi, gas prices currently sit at $3.29.
