Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus advocates for Medicaid expansion
SUMMARY: Members of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus are pushing for Medicaid expansion, throwing their support behind a house version bill that would expand coverage for working Mississippians earning up to 138% of the federal poverty level. While lawmakers in both chambers show a commitment to expansion, there is disagreement on the best approach. Some fear the bill may not pass amidst the debate. Advocates argue that expanding Medicaid not only improves healthcare access but also spurs economic development and sustains communities with hospitals. They stress the importance of covering working people and maximizing cost savings.

Farm to Table: Cabbage steaks with butter bean puree
SUMMARY: Chef Katie Dixon from Birdy's Cafe in Mississippi shares her recipe for a favorite Farm to Table dish featuring local vegetables. The dish includes cabbage steaks, butterbean puree, and chimichurri salsa. She starts by slicing and seasoning purple cabbage, then grilling it on medium heat. Meanwhile, she blends butterbeans with pepper, salt, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, and reserved butterbean liquid to make a puree, which forms the dish's base. To finalize, she creates a salsa with parsley, red wine vinegar, onions, pepper, salt, lime juice, red pepper, and garlic. The grilled cabbage steaks are topped with the salsa and served over the puree.

Mother of fallen Monroe County deputy upset after someone stole items from son's grave
SUMMARY: Recent cemetery vandalism in West Point, Yabish County, and Amory has drawn attention, with Sergeant Dylan Pickle's grave being notably affected. Sgt. Pickle, who served with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, died in a traffic incident nearly four years ago. Visitors would leave coins on his grave, which held deep personal significance for his mother, Debbie Pearson. Recently, nearly $10 in coins was stolen, leaving only 4 cents. Other graves in the area have also been targeted. Pearson's cameras previously caught someone stealing solar lights from the site. Authorities urge the public to report any such vandalism to prevent future incidents.
