Six members of Mississippi ‘Goon Squad’ to be sentenced on state charges
SUMMARY: Six former members of law enforcement in Rankin County, Mississippi, who tortured two Black men are facing new state charges and sentencing, after previously being sentenced on federal charges. The victims, Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker, were subjected to racially motivated violence and torture. The officers, known as the “Goon Squad,” assaulted the men with stun guns, a sex toy, and other objects after bursting into a home without a warrant. The deputies planted drugs and false charges against the victims. Rankin County NAACP has called for the sheriff's resignation, and the victims have filed a civil lawsuit against the department.

SUMMARY: Dedtrick Jones, a 20-year-old man from Columbus, has been charged with shooting and killing Marvin Horn Jr. in Meridian. The shooting took place on March 10 on Mosby Road. Jones was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Lowndes County deputies, with bond set at $1 million. A video of the arrest was captured by a WCBI viewer at a Highway 45 shopping center. SUMMARY: Jackson police are investigating a shooting at the Masonic Temple on John R. Lynch Street. The incident occurred on Sunday night, with suspects driving a light-colored SUV and firing multiple shots at the building. Surveillance video captured the incident, showing a GMC Tahoe possibly involved. Shell casings from a semi-automatic handgun were found at the scene. The suspects remain unidentified, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
