PERS bill dies in Mississippi Senate
SUMMARY: State House speaker Jason White expressed disappointment that House Bill 1590, also known as the pur Bill, did not pass in the Senate. The bill aimed to restructure the Board of Trustees and repeal certain schedules. Speaker White clarified that the bill would not impact retiree benefits, but rather address employer contribution increases to the state public employees' retirement system. Failure to address this increase could result in tax hikes by cities and counties. The bill would have also rescinded a 2% increase in employer contributions.
The P.E.R.S. bill died in a Mississippi Senate committee.
